Used-car commerce has always been episodic. A dealer sources a vehicle, a buyer transacts, the platform gets paid once, and the customer disappears into the long tail of ownership. Every stage of that journey carries financial risk that nobody underwrites.

Dealer income sits exposed to business disruption, with no backstop. Buyers of high ticket vehicles have no structured aftercare, so confidence at the point of sale is thin and every warranty claim lands on Cars24's own books. And when a customer eventually resells, the platform is back to zero on customer acquisition. Every stage is priced as a one-off, so the economics reset each time.

The layer that could tie all of this together simply did not exist.

How we approached it

Previous protection in used cars treated the journey as separate transactions. Warranties ended. Buyback was informal. Dealer cover didnʼt exist.

When we looked at it with Cars24, the stages were clearly feeding each other. What a dealer sells shapes what a buyer drives. How a vehicle is maintained shapes what it's worth at resale.

So we built it that way. Cars24 brought the platform, the dealer network, and the customer context. We brought the underwriting and the risk intelligence. We started with dealers and designed the next stages to build on what the first would teach us.

Impact

Dealer and income protection went live in September 2025. It grew inside Cars24's existing workflows, with no separate marketing push

Dealers who had no income backstop now have one, inside the platform they already transact on. Financing customers are covered on the same rail. The data shapes how we price the next stages.
